I WAS accused last week in your columns of being out of date in my insistence on the need for mayors of local authorities to be impartial in public and in council discussions.
WE are all about to suffer the results of yet another ‘rubbish’ decision from West Devon Borough Council.
I HAVE recently been a victim of the automated phone scam.
WHY is it that everybody has heard of James Watt, watching a kettle boiling on the hob and thereby inventing the steam engine? A complete fabrication.
I WOULD like to take the opportunity to thank all the lovely ladies who attended the Ladies Night on Wednesday August 4 at Yelverton Golf Club, and especially those who gave up their time to provide a variety of lovely stalls for the night.
ON behalf of the Royal Marines’ Association Tavistock, a great big thank you to all the people who contributed £712.
MAY I please, through your newspaper, offer my sincere thanks and gratitude to everybody who assisted my son, Ben, when he had his accident on Saturday August 21, on the road between Chillaton and Tavistock.
MAY I, through your Letters page, express my thanks to our local PDSA at Stonehouse?
Due to a change of circumstances I find myself on housing benefit, which pays most of my rent and now enables me to get free treatment for my two dogs.
SINCE your article on street lighting on the old A30 this subject and my brief appearance on BBC Spotlight some months ago, I am constantly being asked what is being done to rectify the incredibly wasteful situation where ghastly orange street lights are spewing out light on to empty fields along the stretch of this road between Sourton and Lewdown.
AS a resident of Tavistock and a dog owner, I am disgusted with the amounts of litter left in the little green at the beginning of Dolvin Road.
I really must take issue with Dick Eberlie’s comments (Letters, August 12) about the role of the mayor.
EARLY on Saturday morning, August 14, I was walking my dog in Meadowlands park and came across a lady, (who was visiting/passing through Tavistock), carrying her Yorkshire Terrier puppy which had just died.
I WONDER if other people in the Tavistock area have been having problems with internet connections, or should I say lack of internet connection.
FOLLOWING Colin Sansoms letter in the Times last week, I felt it important to point out that West Devon Borough Councils new recycling and refuse contract is designed to provide the same good service for all residents of the borough.
AS one of Tavistocks residents of long-standing and longevity! may I express, through your pages, my sincere thanks and appreciation to three anonymous gentlemen who came to my assistance last Saturday week.
MARGARET Garton does not wish to be tarred with the same brush as Diana Moyse (Letters August 4), so it is heartening to see that some councillors have begun to realise that there is considerable public disillusionment over the way the core strategy process has been handled.
WHILE I can accept that outside the urban environment this may be a more comprehensive service but for those residents in Tavistock and Okehampton it is difficult to see how the new refuse contract is better as portrayed by West Devons Connect.
HOW refreshing it was last year when Cornwall Council decided to revert to using the Cornwall County Council logo, the Chough and the shield and the 15 bezants from the coat of arms, in place of a new design which supposedly represented growth and movement and which was widely derided.
ONCE again Cllr Moyse, chairman of the future planning and housing committee and deputy leader of the Conservative Group on West Devon chooses to involve the public in her political groups internecine warfare over the substitution of its members for the vote on the core strategy (Letters,August 5).
IT seems like only yesterday that the last football season ended and here we are again.
